FMA Foundation Hosts Backyard BBQ to Benefit Resiliency and Education

April 11, 2016 – The FMA Foundation hosted its 3rd annual signature fundraising event on April 8 raising more than $12,000. The Backyard BBQ, which took place at donated space from Corporate Office Properties Trust, included an evening of networking, drinks, casino games, live music, backyard games, a silent auction and food generously provided by Mission BBQ.

“We are truly grateful for all of the attendees who came out to support the Foundation,” said Deon Viergutz, president of the FMA Foundation. “Their generosity helps the Foundation support military and families and education efforts throughout the Fort Meade region.”

To date, the Foundation’s signature events have raised nearly $30,000.

The FMA Foundation, incorporated in 2011, promotes, encourages and meets the charitable giving needs of the region by accepting, investing and distributing corporate and personal gifts as well as conducting its own fundraising efforts.

The Foundation recently embarked on a significant partnership with the U.S. Army and the Fort George G. Meade Garrison to establish a Resiliency Campus for the service personnel, their families and civilians at the Installation. The plan includes the renovation of the installation’s Kuhn Hall and its conversion into a Resiliency and Education Center, which will serve as the hub of information, programming, and services for the Fort Meade Community, focusing on the five areas of resiliency: physical, emotional, social, family and spiritual.

In addition to the resiliency efforts, the Foundation hosts education-oriented programs and offers scholarships for high school and college students pursuing studies and careers in the key fields of science, technology, engineering, math, language and information technology.
